Tucked away in the heart of Val Masino (Sondrio province, Lombardy), Val di Mello is one of the most enchanting destinations for mountain lovers and climbers alike. Often called the "Italian Yosemite," this valley is a natural gem, with towering granite walls, untouched forests, crystal-clear streams, and a deep, peaceful silence.
A favorite among climbers from all over Europe, Val di Mello offers hundreds of rock routes for all skill levels. The solid granite, technical friction climbing, and breathtaking surroundings make every climb a truly memorable adventure.

CLEAN CLIMB
Most routes have belay stations equipped only with pitons, so we'll need to place our own protection with cams while climbing the pitches!

The must-do routes in the valley are:
Cunicolo acuto + Tunnel diagonale (V+, 200m)
Stomaco peloso + Alba del nirvana (IV-, 230m)
Il risveglio di Kundalini (VII-, 300m)
Luna nascente (VII, 350m)
Oceano irrazionale (VII, 500m)
Piedi di piombo (6c, 200m)
Lavorare con lentezza (7b, 230m)
Another climbing spot in the valley is Monte Piezza, where you can find sport routes with a gentler character, such as:

Cattoalcolisti (6a+, 250m)
Ottobre rosso (6c, 250m)
It’s definitely worth mentioning the valley’s iconic crag: Sasso Remenno, the largest monolith in Europe! With routes on different faces and climbs for all skill levels, it’s the perfect place for a day of sport climbing or to take a technique or safety course.

SCHEDULE
You can plan climbing trips for a single day or over several days. If you're staying longer, the village of San Martino in Val Masino offers a range of accommodation options, including campsites and hotels.
Most climbing approaches start from the sports field in San Martino. Alternatively, you can drive or take a bus up to Val di Mello (a ticket is required). From there, the approach to the routes typically takes between 20 and 60 minutes on foot.
NOTE: The meeting time and location will be confirmed at the time of booking.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT: Helmet, harness, HMS carabiner with wide base and locking mechanism, abseiling kit, 30/40L backpack.
CLOTHING: Approach shoes, climbing shoes, technical base layers, fleece, wind proof or similar jacket, down jacket, Sholler or similar pants, hat.
OTHER: Energy snacks, camera, sunglasses (min. cat 3), sun protection.
